Ianto stood frozen. He wasn't sure what to do. He knew that Jack could survive anything, but he also knew that every death, every injury, it hurt as much as it would on anyone else. Being able to come back from it was only a minor reassurance, in the long run. "Jack, I..."
"Ianto," Jack said firmly, "go help Hakuba. Go find some way to fix this. That's an order." His voice softens. "You know I'll be fine, it's you two that still need to worry about this. Now go."
Jack shut his eyes. He didn't need any more nightmares of the darkness coming to swallow him up, thank you, he'd rather not watch what happened. It was bad enough that he was claustrophobic because of the thousands of years underground, he didn't need to be scared of his own shadow too.
Ianto turned away and deliberately made himself go over to Hakuba, down to the medical bay, away from Jack. Orders were orders, which was the only thing that kept him going down the stairs when the screaming started.
