[Accidental voice opost]

[The audio starts out with Hakubas's voice, neutral and more apathetic than usually. The other voice in the telephone is not audible.]

"Criminal Science."

[...]

"Yes, like I did when I was there. I will study psychology too."

[...]

"No, it's not because of her."

[...]

"Or him, either." [Mild irritation now.] It's because I want to do it. I want to stay here."

[...]

"I know you don't. You never did."

[...]

"Alright then." [He pauses for a few moments, when he speaks again his voice is neutral as he can.] "Bye, mother."

It's good too meet another detective, we have so many thieves here.

More than a year, yes.

[identity profile] truthinfortune.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
So I've heard. I've spoken to at least one of them, on several occasions.

I see. Then you must know of the phantom thief, Kaitou Kid, correct?

[identity profile] clockmaster.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
Mr. Adachi?

I'm do, yes. I'm one of the detectives assigned to his case. Why?

[identity profile] truthinfortune.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
I was referring to the thief, Kaito Kid. He seems to have taken an interest in my work. But yes, I have also spoken to Adachi-san. He works in the same prefecture where I live.

Ah, so you're from the same world as Kaitou Kid? Excellent! Then perhaps you can help me to discern his whereabouts. He hinted to me that he was planning another heist soon, and I'm extremely interested in meeting this infamous thief in the flesh.

[identity profile] clockmaster.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
He's a very curious person when he wants to be, and he likes to keep and eye on the possible detectives that can ruin his fun. Can I ask what's your work about? You are specialized in theft too? I should ask Adachi about his work as well.

There's always a future heist planned, but meeting him in person is not so easy, I'm afraid.

[identity profile] truthinfortune.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed. Kid has certainly garnered my interest, as well. I'm a private detective, so I'm often called on by the police to aid in their investigations. I've traveled all over the country. I wouldn't say I have any particular specialties, but I've solved over 24 cases on my own, 16 of which involved homicides.

As for Adachi-san, all I know is that he transferred to his new post at the Inaba Police Department about a year ago. He's a subordinate to Dojima-san. Both seem very dedicated to their work.

Surely, someone who has pursued him for as long as you have is able to make an educated guess about his next heist? Have you never been able to successfully perform a stake out? Does he leave his calling card before or after a heist?

the number of cases is canon. I swear that he's not showing off :|

[identity profile] clockmaster.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Seems likr we have some thing in common, I help the police but I often work alone too. I lived all my life in London, and raveled around Europe and Asia quite a lot. Now I live in Japan, Ekoda. I solved 500 cases int he last year, but not many of them involved homicides, I don't find them that much interesting.

Yes, I would be able to do that. He leaves a note before heist, usually in the most odd way possible, but I cna't give you more detail of the investigation.

[The number of cases is canon. I swear that he's not showing off :| And About the last comment, sorry, he's possessive about Kid, so he's now all: My Thief >| Back off!

That's quite an impressive figure. I was hoping I might study in the UK, once my schooling was finished here. I plan to attend university, after all, and I think the chance to study abroad would be good for me.

Homicides are truly heinous crimes. If my work can prevent more people from becoming victims, then I will do everything in my power to make sure those criminals receive their just punishment.

I understand. Sensitive information needs to be closely guarded in a case such as this. I hope that perhaps, I might be able to assist you in some small way.

[identity profile] clockmaster.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
The UK is a great place to learn new things, trust me. you should really try it if you have the opportunity.

They really are, it's probably because of that I don't like them much. I wish you luck Naoto.

Help is always welcome when it comes to catch a criminal, but why are you so interested? He's not even from your world.

[identity profile] truthinfortune.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I have the means necessary to travel abroad. My grandfather often visits friends in the US, so I learned English at a young age. I've always dreamed of studying at Cambridge.

Thank you. Not everyone has the stomach for that sort of work. But I have a rather invested interest in apprehending the truly wicked.

Well, I suppose you could say I'm more interested in his occupation than in the man himself (though the man is quite intriguing, in and of himself). Phantom thieves are no more than out-dated, romanticized criminals in my world. They say that when the Man of Twenty Faces disappeared, that was the death of the Phantom Thief tradition in my world. I think I want to experience a little of what my predecessors did, back in their heyday. A battle of wits against a worthy opponent.

[identity profile] clockmaster.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
[A cynical Laugh.] My mother studied there.

Welcome. It's not because of the blood, I saw plenty of that. They're just not my thing, but it's good to kwno that not everyone think this way.

The Man of Twenty Faces? Who was that man?. Kid will not be disappointing.

[identity profile] truthinfortune.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
So did Sherlock Holmes. At least, that's part of his back story in the books, anyway.

I understand. I have no particular preferences when it comes to casework. Well, maybe one. I relish a challenge. So, the more difficult the case, the better.

Well, he wasn't any particular man. Rather, "Man of Twenty Faces" is a title, passed on to different Phantom Thieves throughout the generations. He was a master of disguise (hence the nickname, Twenty Faces). He's a pseudo-legendary figure, and his incarnations have appeared in various books, manga, anime, and even film. As far as I know, there was only one documented case of a real thief who went by that name in my world. He was the rival of my great-great-grandfather, Hironobu Shirogane. But when Twenty Faces mysteriously vanished without a trace, that was pretty much the end of the Phantom Thief tradition, as far as I know.

[identity profile] clockmaster.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
He really did. He's on the comm, you can ask him yourself if you don't trust me.

I do the same, it's more interesting that way.

That sounds familiar. Kaito Kid story is rather similar. All the members of your family are detectives?

[identity profile] truthinfortune.livejournal.com 2009-08-26 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
So I heard, from Kanzeon. He hasn't been active recently, though. I really would love to meet him, if the opportunity presents itself.

Hm, so we have more in common than I thought.

Yes. My great-great-grandfather was the first in the line to begin the detective tradition. Every male child in my family has become one. Both my parents were detectives, too.

[identity profile] clockmaster.livejournal.com 2009-08-26 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe he's busy with a case.

Looks like so, Naoto. Is that bad?

Only the male child? Why? The sister of my father is a detective too, he's the Superintendent of the Tokyo MPD.

[identity profile] truthinfortune.livejournal.com 2009-08-26 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Um, no, not at all! It's just... I never imagined to meet someone who shares so many of my interests, that's all.

Well, it just happens that the Shirogane family happens to be predisposed to male children, that's all. They carry on the direct line. I'm an only child, and so was my father and grandfather.

[identity profile] clockmaster.livejournal.com 2009-08-26 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
You never know who you will meet in this comm, It's certainly a special place.

Genetics aren't all, thanks to god. the females of my family are mostly crazy. . Hn. I see, the interested for mysteries runs int he blood.

[identity profile] truthinfortune.livejournal.com 2009-08-26 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
It's certainly an interesting mystery to unravel...

Yes, you could say that. Being a detective... I feel like it's something I was born to do. Just as a fish must swim, or a bird must fly, so I must solve mysteries.

[identity profile] clockmaster.livejournal.com 2009-08-26 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
It begins as that, often it becomes more and more trouble.

I understand that feeling.
