[Accidental voice opost]
[The audio starts out with Hakubas's voice, neutral and more apathetic than usually. The other voice in the telephone is not audible.]
"Criminal Science."
[...]
"Yes, like I did when I was there. I will study psychology too."
[...]
"No, it's not because of her."
[...]
"Or him, either." [Mild irritation now.] It's because I want to do it. I want to stay here."
[...]
"I know you don't. You never did."
[...]
"Alright then." [He pauses for a few moments, when he speaks again his voice is neutral as he can.] "Bye, mother."

More than a year, yes.

I see. Then you must know of the phantom thief, Kaitou Kid, correct?
no subject
I'm do, yes. I'm one of the detectives assigned to his case. Why?
no subject
Ah, so you're from the same world as Kaitou Kid? Excellent! Then perhaps you can help me to discern his whereabouts. He hinted to me that he was planning another heist soon, and I'm extremely interested in meeting this infamous thief in the flesh.
no subject
There's always a future heist planned, but meeting him in person is not so easy, I'm afraid.

As for Adachi-san, all I know is that he transferred to his new post at the Inaba Police Department about a year ago. He's a subordinate to Dojima-san. Both seem very dedicated to their work.
Surely, someone who has pursued him for as long as you have is able to make an educated guess about his next heist? Have you never been able to successfully perform a stake out? Does he leave his calling card before or after a heist?
the number of cases is canon. I swear that he's not showing off :|
Yes, I would be able to do that. He leaves a note before heist, usually in the most odd way possible, but I cna't give you more detail of the investigation.
[The number of cases is canon. I swear that he's not showing off :| And About the last comment, sorry, he's possessive about Kid, so he's now all: My Thief >| Back off!

Homicides are truly heinous crimes. If my work can prevent more people from becoming victims, then I will do everything in my power to make sure those criminals receive their just punishment.
I understand. Sensitive information needs to be closely guarded in a case such as this. I hope that perhaps, I might be able to assist you in some small way.

They really are, it's probably because of that I don't like them much. I wish you luck Naoto.
Help is always welcome when it comes to catch a criminal, but why are you so interested? He's not even from your world.
no subject
Thank you. Not everyone has the stomach for that sort of work. But I have a rather invested interest in apprehending the truly wicked.
Well, I suppose you could say I'm more interested in his occupation than in the man himself (though the man is quite intriguing, in and of himself). Phantom thieves are no more than out-dated, romanticized criminals in my world. They say that when the Man of Twenty Faces disappeared, that was the death of the Phantom Thief tradition in my world. I think I want to experience a little of what my predecessors did, back in their heyday. A battle of wits against a worthy opponent.

Welcome. It's not because of the blood, I saw plenty of that. They're just not my thing, but it's good to kwno that not everyone think this way.
The Man of Twenty Faces? Who was that man?. Kid will not be disappointing.

I understand. I have no particular preferences when it comes to casework. Well, maybe one. I relish a challenge. So, the more difficult the case, the better.
Well, he wasn't any particular man. Rather, "Man of Twenty Faces" is a title, passed on to different Phantom Thieves throughout the generations. He was a master of disguise (hence the nickname, Twenty Faces). He's a pseudo-legendary figure, and his incarnations have appeared in various books, manga, anime, and even film. As far as I know, there was only one documented case of a real thief who went by that name in my world. He was the rival of my great-great-grandfather, Hironobu Shirogane. But when Twenty Faces mysteriously vanished without a trace, that was pretty much the end of the Phantom Thief tradition, as far as I know.

I do the same, it's more interesting that way.
That sounds familiar. Kaito Kid story is rather similar. All the members of your family are detectives?
no subject
Hm, so we have more in common than I thought.
Yes. My great-great-grandfather was the first in the line to begin the detective tradition. Every male child in my family has become one. Both my parents were detectives, too.
no subject
Looks like so, Naoto. Is that bad?
Only the male child? Why? The sister of my father is a detective too, he's the Superintendent of the Tokyo MPD.
no subject
Well, it just happens that the Shirogane family happens to be predisposed to male children, that's all. They carry on the direct line. I'm an only child, and so was my father and grandfather.

Genetics aren't all, thanks to god.
the females of my family are mostly crazy.. Hn. I see, the interested for mysteries runs int he blood.no subject
Yes, you could say that. Being a detective... I feel like it's something I was born to do. Just as a fish must swim, or a bird must fly, so I must solve mysteries.
no subject
I understand that feeling.
