[Zack heads straight for the food, a still-grumbling Tseng gripped firmly by the upper arm. He sees Kasumi standing there looking uncertain, and smiles at her.]

Hey! Haven't seen you around before, have I?

[Looking a bit sour, Tseng nods to Kasumi] Miss Tendo.

[Yes, he knows her name even though they haven't met. He's got files on nearly everyone in DDD]

Well, I'll give the boss - or whoever threw this party despite him, I guess - this much. The food looks damned good.

[Zack is piling food on a plate, taking a small bit of everything he doesn't recognize, adventurous as usual.]

[Well, so long as he's here, he might as well have something to eat. He takes a plate and starts taking things]

You can thank Hakuba Saguru, then. He organized this.

Haha, figures. Wanna bet on how long it takes before the... before Rufus exacts an appropriate punishment? [This version of Zack knows Rufus nearly as well as Tseng does, and he grins as he anticipates possible reactions]

[Tseng chuckles faintly] As long as it takes Rufus to catch up with him, I expect.

[After her heart beat receeded to a reasonable level, Kasumi bowed slightly in greeting.] Hello,...sir. [Had they met before?]

((Eep! I did not mean to ignore this. Should check threads when there are too people blah. Ah- so disorganized now...))

[Tseng returned the bow, polite even if he was a bit aloof]

No, I don't believe so. I'm Tseng, head of the Turks, who are providing security tonight.

[He gestured to Zack] He felt I should take a walk around, that's all.

((Ack, no worries, dear. Sorry for the disorganization!))

[Security? Yes, Rufus-san was an important man; he needed to be looked after. She smiled, politley,] A pleasure to make your acquantiance, Tseng-san.

[He sounded a bit put out about that last. The other man did seem much more enthusiastic. Hestitantly, in way of conversation, Kasumi broached:] Stretching ones legs gives you a good chance to make the rounds, I suppose.

((Oh, well~ Whatever works, works. This is totally fine. <3))

[Tseng inclined his head in agreement and gave a nod] I would agree with you, Miss Tendo.

Are you enjoying the party tonight?

Ah, yes. [Though her reply was hesitant, at best, and her smile is still a bit stiff. She turned to reguard the party, and continued:] Hakuba-san has done a splendid job.

[His eyes miss little, and he moves to stand beside her, following her gaze] If you don't mind my saying so, you do seem a bit less than enthusiastic, despite your words.

[She looks up at him, surprised. Ah- He is an observant man... A smile, and the truth; Kasumi has never been one to lie. Though she does look away as she tells it, regarding the party goers a bit more intently than necessary.] Yes, I. Well, I feel a bit out of place. This party is for Rufus-san, after all; truly, it is quite the grand affair! And, that is, we are simply acquaintances...

[Tseng's eyebrows rise] Well, I'm sure it's an opportunity for you to meet new people. No doubt there are others here who feel the same as you - Rufus doesn't make friends easily, but Hakuba's thrown a big party. You're welcome here, Miss Tendo, I assure you.

[She blinked up at him, absorbing the reassurances absently. His words were straightforward, and very kind. A good man, this Tseng-san.] Thank you very much. [He receives a true smile for his trouble.] Your words are very kind.

[His eyebrows arch] My words are simply the truth. [He inclines his head] I hope you enjoy the party more, Miss Tendo.

[Startled, Kasumi nearly jumped out of her skin.] Oh! [Two men approached, one looking less than happy, and the other smiling as bright as a sunrise. Both she had seen on the community.]

[With a hand on her chest, as if to keep in her beating heart, she returned the smile.] You startled me.

Sorry, didn't mean to! [Zack is genuinely apologetic, though still smiling.] I do have a bad habit of sneaking up on people, but it's not on purpose, really.

Oh- it's all right. [She breathed deeply, let it out; now she was calm enough to smile back.] I was not paying attention, really.

[He tilts his head] Careful. If you stand around being distracted like that, someone might come along and sweep you off to the dance floor before you realize it, or something. [He winks at her]

[Dance floor? Ah- she's feeling a bit more lost the farther this conversation goes. And it has not gone far. Is he warning her against something?] I will be sure to look out from now on.

[He laughs - he thinks her innocence is cute] Well, if you run into any trouble, just come look for me, I'll ride to your rescue. I'm Zack.

I will be sure to let you know, Zack-san. [He's rather enthusiastic, isn't he. And, as it is her turn to introduce herself, she bowed politely.] My name is Tendou Kasumi. A pleasure to make your acquantiance.

Nice to meet you, Kasumi! Don't be shy, have fun tonight! Nobody will bite - or the Turks will take care of them, if they do. [He grins again]

[Her smile is a bit more natural now that she has begun to relax.] I will try to, thank you. Certainly it looks...not to be quite so hard.
