There was a silence on the other end and then a deafening clatter as the cell phone hit Heiji's desk, his desktop computer, his now empty chair, and then bounced over the floor.

The Osakan pushed the window open, it hadn't been locked, and leaned out to stare at Hakuba incredulously.

He...he hadn't been serious, had he?!

"What?" He murmured low, but his mouth movement made his question quite clear.

Hakuba winced slightly at the sudden sound of the phone falling. Heiji was as careful as he remembered. When the boy appeared on the window, Hakuba closed his phone and waved.

"Hello there, cutie." Hakuba said, grinning. Challenge him was never a good idea, time for the Osaka detective to understand that.

Heiji blanched slightly and glanced back at his door. It didn't sound like anyone knew Hakuba was here, so maybe he could get away with avoiding him sucking up to his family.

It would be just a Brit thing to do.

He moved away from his window and grabbed his jacket, and his cell phone. Locking his door, his slipped back to the window quietly and sat on the ledge, swinging one leg out into open air so he balanced easily.

Yelling would be stupid, but how to either get out or get Hakuba in without revealing his presence?

DAMN him for being caught unprepared! He should have known!

Hakuba raised an eyebrow...Heiji complain when he called him a monkey, but seriously, he acts like one sometimes.

He was going to break his neck if he keeps doing things like that, Hakuba thought. The blonde boy motioned to his cellphone, as if to say If you want to tell me something use the phone, moron. without really saying it out loud.

He stuck out his tongue and was hitting the dial back button before Hakuba even finished the movement.

When Hakuba answered, Heiji kept his voice low, hissing slightly. "What are you doing here!?"

Hakuba was wondering about Heiji's maturity when he answered the detective.

"I'm a bit disappointed..you're still wearing clothes."

Talk abotu maturity.

Heiji obviously couldn't think of a reply at first, his face turning an alarming shade of red, opening his mouth silently a few times in an effort to say something, anything.

He narrowed his eyes finally and tried to pretend he wasn't lost for words.

"I was gonna invite ya up but I see now that that's prolly a bad idea." He said, accent slightly thicker than normal.

It was hard not to laugh at his face, really. Fortunately, Hakuba learned at a young age to control his emotion. too much sometimes.

"You're breaking my heart, Heiji. I even brought you a present." Hakuba showed him the blue box and faked a pout.

Heiji made his decision quicker and growled to himself, not caring that the other detective could hear it.

This act was getting to be too much.

"Just get up here." He griped, gesturing one arm below his window. "Hope climbing isn't beneath you."

If he were into english culture, a Romeo pun would have been the perfect quip to throw back at him.

"Not at all my dear Juliet." Hakuba mocked. He past to much time playing alone to know how to climb to trees and places without a problem. That doesn't mind that he liked to do it much.

Besides, the computer and the present were going to be a death weight, even if the present wasn't that much heavy. The climb was a less than elegant but he managed to do it.

By the time Hakuba managed to get up to the window, Heiji felt astoundingly better. Watching the other teen have to struggle with the weight of his bag reminded him that Hakuba was just as clumsy as everyone else sometimes.

Not that he could be as humiliated, but Heiji didn't have a reason to try, yet.

He did, however, move out of the way and offer to help Hakuba in through the window.

Hakuba was a bit surprised of the hand that appeared in front of his eyes, but ei, don't look a gift horse in the mouth. He took his hand with a rare smile and soon was sitting on the window ledge next to Hattori.

"Thanks." The boy murmured, being sure that either of the box or the computer were going to fall down by accident. "Why so secretive? I'm your little dirty secret now or is that you mother is worse than mine? because I seriously doubt about the last one."

"Shut up before I push ya back down." He snarled lightly, face turning red. "Ya didn't see how excited she was when Kuroba first stepped into th' house. With th' way she acted, ye'd think I had no friends."

He paused a moment, quiet. "Don't comment on that." Heiji muttered, fully aware of how few people he actually got along with.

Moving back off the window, he returned to his computer chair and swung around, wordlessly inviting Hakuba in.

"Don't complain about that." Hakuba tried to sound nonchalant but a bit of resentment was coloring his voice. "She's happy for you at least."

Hakuba watched him sat on the chair, but he didn't move from the window.

"Ey, the present is really for you, you know." Hakuba throw him the box, hoping that he will catch her easily.

If he wouldn't, it will not matter much, really. The present was in fact Hattori's cap, the one he asked Kid to steal for him as compensation for not getting in the middle of the Osaka heist. it was not goign to break if he fell or anything.

Heiji caught the box, mentally kicking himself for continuing that topic. Hakuba brought it up, but how his mom acted obviously bothered him.

He busied himself with looking over the box in order to keep himself from apologizing.

Of course, the urge to be nice faded when he unveiled what was IN the box.

Ha ha. It was a conspiracy all along. He should have known. "Aww, for me? You shouldn't've." He crooned sarcastically, putting a hand against his chest as if surprised. Hakuba followed through with showing up; Heiji was not going to be the one that backed down.

Hakuba stood up and come near the other boy. He will stop annoying Hattori the day Heiji stop being so much fun to annoy. The face of the boy when he opened the box was priceless, but he cover it well the next second.

"I know I shouldn't." Hakuba took the cap from Heiji's hand and put it on the boy's head. "You look better without it."

Though he knew it was just teasing, he still couldn't help the redness that went across his face. He turned the bill of his hat backwards and looked up at Hakuba. "Well I guess everytime we meet I should leave it at home then."

Hakuba just looked down at him and grinned "Oh, you will do that for me? I'm touched."

"Oh I'd do almost anything for you." Heiji grinned back.

Hakuba was a bit impressed, Heiji was following the drift quite well. In others occasions, he was already yelling at him by this point. Time to see how far he will go.

"Almost anything uh?" The blonde detective bend do so he was looking at Heiji eye level, their faces close.

Heiji almost sat back further to put some distance between them, but managed to resist. He tilted his head slightly. "All's you have to do is ask."

At that comment, Hakuba narrowed his eyes and grinned even more, like a pleased cat.

Heiji paled slightly, tilting his chin up defiantly.

Even if Heiji was obstinate, Hakuba noticed how he paled and decided to have compassion of him. For now.

"I will keep that in mind for another occasion." Saguru said in a soft voice as he incorporated.

"You wold scream too much now and your family is on the house." he ended, sounding more like his usual arrogant self.

Heiji frowned, not quite sure how but realizing he must have taken a step back somewhere. "I wouldn't scream!" He denied automatically, not even knowing what he was denying about.
